What is King's Maths School: Hong Kong Summer Programme

King's Maths School (KMS) is a specialist state-funded school founded in 2014 for students aged 16-19 who have a particular aptitude and enthusiasm for mathematics. It is a subsidiary of King's College London and is run in partnership with the university. KMS is regarded as the top academically in UK.

King's Maths School: Hong Kong Summer Programme offers a rigorous and inspiring education that deepens students’ understanding of mathematics and its real-world applications, while developing their thinking, problem-solving and communication skills. Our teaching goes beyond examination requirements, preparing students not only for outstanding results but also for success at leading universities and future careers.

The Intensive Summer Programme in Hong Kong is a strategic initiative to bring the high-quality education of King’s College London Mathematics School to the region. The programme offers Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science. With a maximum of 15 students per class, the programme provides an intimate learning environment where teaching extends beyond routine methods to foster deep, adaptable and rigorous mathematical thinking.

  • Subjects: Maths, Futher Maths, Physics. The programme focuses on a few large, complex topics that reveal the interconnected nature of mathematical concepts and encourage discovery of related ideas.
  • Authentic Teaching: Summer Programme is taught by our existing London faculty - the same teachers who led KMS to become the "Sixth Form of the Decade". All the teaching staffs will be current KMS UK teachers and the teaching assistants will be graduating students or Alumni of KMS UK. This would ensure that the learning will be authentic to how we promote in UK.
  • Intensive Academics: A condensed curriculum covering selected topics in just 2 weeks (60+ hours) for AS, A-Level, IB and DSE students (Choice of Math, Additional Math, Physics, & Computer Science).
  • Summer Research Project: Students engage in subject-based projects for 2 hours daily, guided by KMS Alumni, culminating in a final presentation to teaching staff and parents.
  • Oxbridge & UCAS Preparation: Dedicated sessions on Oxbridge testing and interview preparation, alongside experience sharing from KMS Alumni.
  • King’s College London Insights: Presentations from King’s College Admission staff explaining the university application process.
  • Official Certification: Graduates receive a King’s College London Mathematics School Summer Program Certificate, with tiers for Completion, Distinction, or Honours.

Admission Process

  • Application opens in March 2026. Please contact AISL Mall's WhatsApp or suport@aislmall.com to fill in and submit the application & the school report.

  • Upon review, we will request an adaptive Maths test and/or an interview.

  • Test and interview are mandatory for scholarship applicants. The required knowledge for the test is the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum for mathematics. Examples of the multiple-choice questions and the written problems: Example 1, Example 2, and Example 3.

  • The interview involves two components:
    • A mathematics interview, in which we will teach you some new mathematics. The purpose of this interview is to determine how effective a mathematical learner you are. Are you able to, with our help, understand a new idea? Are you able to apply this idea independently and flexibly? How well do you listen and respond to our prompts?
    • A personal interview, in which we will ask about your reason for applying to King’s Maths School Hong Kong and will ask questions to find out more about you. What are your interests? What are your aspirations?

Some helpful questions

How are the A-level results for KMS UK?

A-Level Results: In 2025, 93% of grades were A*/A, and 71% were A* grades. In 2024, 97.5% were A*/A.

Awards: It has been awarded "Sixth Form of the Decade".

How are the university placements?

KMS has a high success rate for elite universities, with 42% of leavers securing places at Oxford and Cambridge in 2025. Entrance into Imperial College, UCL, LSE, Edinburgh and other top University programs in UK.

How is KMS teaching style different from that of normal schools?

Our focus is solely on STEM subjects, within an environment that encourages collaborative learning. Students are invited to question, challenge, and explore, with teachers guiding the process.

We often go beyond the A-level syllabus, using it as a foundation for deeper exploration. Teachers strive to answer all student questions, researching new topics as needed — a reflection of our commitment to limitless learning.

What is the research project?

We will be dedicating 1/3 of the course to a group research project where students will use mathematical concepts to solve different real life programs under the guidance of the teaching assistant and teachers. The goal of this is to enforce group learning and independent critical thinking

Universities frequently comment on how well our graduates adapt to university-level study. Our students excel in independent learning, critical thinking, and teamwork — skills we attribute to our Research Project initiative.

At KMS UK, students work on six-month projects developed with KCL departments and major corporations. We plan to bring elements of these projects into our Summer Programme.

What skills and knowledge will I gain by the end of the programme?

We hope that by joining our programme, students will gain a new perspective on mathematics, achieve a deeper understanding through exploration and questioning rather than memorisation, and be better prepared for future topics.

What will the KCL admission talk about?

At the end of the first session and the start of the second, officers from King’s College London Admissions will present the academic programmes available for 2027 entry, explain the UCAS process, and answer any questions from students or parents. This is a rare opportunity to hear directly from UK admissions officers outside the UK.

Would this summer programme be suitable for students taking qualifications other than A levels, such as the IB or DSE?

The course is designed to inspire mathematical curiosity and discovery. The skills and concepts developed are multifaceted, fostering a deep and lasting understanding of mathematics. IB and DSE students will find much benefit to the course as well especially the Research Project.

Who is the Summer Programme designed for?

We select students not by age, but by their curiosity, openness and ability to approach mathematics from new perspectives.

Students studying higher-level STEM subjects at UK boarding schools, as well as local and international schools in Hong Kong and mainland China, are well suited to this summer programme.

Do we accept SEN students?

The staffing for the summer school will not include additional specialist SEN teaching assistants, only those students whose SEN needs can be easily met in a group learning environment will be able to participate in the course.

What are the classroom behaviour expectations?

To keep a focused and safe learning environment, students are expected to behave respectfully, follow staff instructions promptly, participate actively and use appropriate language and behaviour.

Where behaviour seriously disrupts learning or compromises safety, we may require a student to withdraw; fees are non-refundable in such cases.
