Step into the world of medicine and experience what it’s really like to learn alongside experienced doctors. This immersive internship combines real clinic shadowing, practical clinical skills training and career guidance to help aspiring medical students gain meaningful insight into the medical profession beyond the classroom.

Choose a 2- or 4-session clinical track with a General Practitioner (GP) or Specialist Doctor, subject to availability. The programme also includes a clinical skills training session led by a registered nurse and a final career planning and reflection session covering CV development, LinkedIn profile building, university application guidance, interview preparation, and reflections on the internship experience.

Programme Details

The Future Doctors Shadowing Programme combines real clinical exposure, practical healthcare training and career preparation to give students a well-rounded introduction to the medical profession.

The programme includes:

  • First Session – 24 October, 09:00–13:00: Clinical Skills Training led by a Registered Nurse
  • 2 or 4 clinic shadowing sessions with experienced General Practitioners (GPs) or Specialist Doctors (SDs), subject to doctor availability
  • Final Session – 28 November, 09:00–12:00: Career Planning & Reflection covering CV development, LinkedIn profile building, university application guidance, interview preparation, and reflection on the internship experience

Depending on the option selected, the programme runs for 4 days (2 clinic shadowing sessions) or 6 days (4 clinic shadowing sessions).

    Programme Duration: 6 days

  • Specialty preferences are subject to availability and are not guaranteed.
  • Placement is dependent on doctor availability and clinic arrangements.
  • Certain specialties may have limited or no placement availability due to the nature of the specialty and patient privacy considerations.

Day 1 – Foundations & Clinical

Nurse Training: Learn essential clinical knowledge, basic healthcare practices and patient care principles with a Registered Nurse.Medical Centre Visit: Visit a state-of-the-art medical centre to see how clinical knowledge and practices are applied in a real healthcare setting.

Clinic Shadowing Sessions

(Individually arranged)

Practical Clinical Exposure: Observe doctors in their daily clinical practice and gain insight into patient-doctor interactions and the patient journey.Clinical Skills Development: Learn how doctors assess patients, take vital signs, maintain medical records and approach patient care.Medical Ethics in Practice: Gain an understanding of patient confidentiality, professional conduct and ethical considerations in a clinical setting.Doctor arrangement is subject to doctor availability.

Final Day – Career Preparation & Reflection

CV Writing with AI: Highlight your strengths and clinical experience effectively using AI tools.LinkedIn Mastery: Build a professional LinkedIn profile and learn how to present your experience and connect with others in the field.Interview Skills Training: Practise common interview questions and develop confidence in presenting yourself.Programme Reflection: Reflect on your clinical experience and explore how it may support your future university and career plans.

The exact clinic shadowing schedule is subject to doctor and clinic availability.

Clinical Shadowing Sessions

Students will spend 2 or 4 sessions in a real medical clinic, shadowing an experienced General Practitioner (GP) or Specialist Doctor, subject to doctor availability. This provides an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into the day-to-day clinical environment and the work of medical professionals. 

During the sessions, students will:

  • Observe patient-doctor interactions

  • Learn how doctors assess symptoms and patient conditions

  • Discuss clinical cases, observations and treatment approaches

  • Gain insight into diagnoses, prescriptions and clinical decision-making

  • Learn about the patient journey and professional responsibilities of doctors

Nurse-Led Clinical Skills Session

Students will learn foundational healthcare skills from a registered nurse, including:

  • Measuring temperature and blood pressure

  • Understanding and monitoring vital signs

  • Maintaining accurate medical records

  • Learning basic medication safety principles

  • Understanding clinic safety procedures and daily routines

  • Learning appropriate clinical attire and professional conduct

Career Planning & Profile Building

Students will learn how to turn their clinical experience into a strong profile for future medical university applications and interviews.

The session covers:

  • Developing a medical-focused CV

  • Optimising a LinkedIn profile

  • Using AI tools to present experiences effectively

  • Structuring a strong Personal Statement

  • Presenting clinical experiences confidently in interviews
