Event Background

The Macau International Model United Nations Youth Association, in conjunction with the Faculty of Arts of the University of Hong Kong, is organising the 2026 Hong Kong Higher Education Experience Day and 2nd Greater Bay Area International Model United Nations Conference. This event helps secondary students and parents in the Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao Greater Bay Area understand the academic atmosphere, pathways to higher education, school features, and academic trends of top universities in Hong Kong. The conference also aims to cultivate international perspectives, public affairs literacy, and crosscultural communication skills among young people.

The event provides valuable opportunities for cross-border learning and exchange for junior and senior secondary school students. Through simulated classrooms, campus tours, and career development training workshops, students experience the academic atmosphere, campus environment, and diverse teaching styles of the University of Hong Kong. These experiences help students plan future academic and career paths while promoting independent learning and an international perspective.

The event also features a value-added program -- 2nd Greater Bay Area International Model United Nations Conference. This program simulates United Nations meetings where students act as diplomatic representatives from specific countries. They participate in position presentations, policy debates, diplomatic negotiations, and the drafting of resolutions regarding the application of artificial intelligence to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The conference environment replicates United Nations parliamentary procedures through sessions for submitting position documents, formal debates, informal consultations, and voting on resolutions. These sessions develop data analysis, interpretation skills, public speaking, impromptu questioning techniques, multilateral negotiation, consensus building, and formal document drafting. The organisers provide specialised training workshops to help new participating schools understand the agenda and discussion methods, which improves overall meeting participation and learning outcomes.

Core Activity Content

Hong Kong Higher Education Experience Day: Students participate in simulated classes, campus tours, and career development seminars at the University of Hong Kong. This content helps students understand Hong Kong's higher education environment, discover diverse pathways for further studies, gather information for self development, and experience university life.
2nd Greater Bay Area International Model United Nations Conference: Students simulate international conference processes, debate global topics with international peers, and improve public speaking, negotiation, and leadership skills through interactive exchanges to build leadership qualities.

Model United Nations: Admissions Advantage for Top Universities

Many universities in Hong Kong and overseas evaluate extracurricular participation and overall candidate quality during student selection. For example, the University of Hong Kong's "Multifaceted Excellence Admission Scheme" includes extracurricular activity experience as an admission consideration and explicitly lists Model United Nations as a reference example.

Students accumulate the following learning experiences and verifiable outcomes through this event:
Immersive Campus Experience: Participating in university campus tours, experiencing the learning environment, and interacting with student peers.
Higher Education Planning Resources: Attending lectures on college pathways, subject trends, and simulated classrooms.
Full Process Model United Nations Training: Learning research preparation, position presentation, formal debate, informal consultation, and voting procedures.
Tangible Portfolio Documentation: Compiling position papers, draft resolutions, certificates of participation, and meeting performance records.
Core Capacity Building: Improving data reading and analysis, public speaking, impromptu response, collaborative communication, consensus building, and formal writing.

Activity Objectives

The event transforms student experiences into expressible, reflectable, and demonstrable learning portfolios to build a solid foundation for future academic planning and career exploration.
