Learning Outcomes
*** This programme will be delivered online via the Zoom platform. Upon successful checkout, participants will be contacted within two (2) working days with further course details.
Day 1 lays a strong foundation in IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) and pronunciation accuracy, giving students a clear understanding of how English sounds are formed and how to produce them correctly. Through interactive activities, listening challenges and guided practice, students develop precision in vowels, consonants, stress patterns and connected speech.
Day 2 builds on these skills by applying pronunciation techniques to real communication, including speech delivery, debate, and interactive speaking tasks. Students practise presenting ideas under gentle pressure, receive personalised feedback, and strengthen their clarity, fluency, intonation and confidence.
Across the two days, students will learn how to recognise and produce accurate British English vowel and consonant sounds using the IPA, understand short and long vowel distinctions, and improve commonly challenging sounds for Cantonese speakers. They explore word stress, syllables, linking, weak forms and sentence stress through engaging activities such as minimal pair games, sound discrimination tasks and IPA decoding.
Learners also discover how pronunciation directly influences clarity and confidence in public speaking, practising techniques such as pausing, pacing, intonation and emphasis. Through mini speeches, debates and performance tasks, students apply their new skills in real speaking contexts, gaining experience in expressing opinions, structuring arguments and responding spontaneously while maintaining clear pronunciation.
Throughout the workshop, they receive individual correction, peer feedback, guided support, and take home materials for continued practice.
