Tech Quest: Robotics, VR & Startup Explorer Week (5-Day Workshop with 4 Startup Visits)

Tech Quest: Robotics, VR & Startup Explorer Week (5-Day Workshop with 4 Startup Visits)

In this engaging week-long programme, students will experience what it’s like to be a robotics engineer in a startup, learning the fundamentals of coding and 3D design while building and programming their own mini robot, which they will take home. Along the way, students will visit leading startups in Hong Kong to see how innovators develop new technologies and build companies. The programme concludes with students presenting their ideas through a short pitch presentation, helping them build confidence in communicating their thinking while developing creativity, problem-solving skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset.

*All the daily sessions will be conducted at the Campus X Centre in Wong Chuk Hang, located at 9/F, Metro South Tower 1, Wong Chuk Hang Road, Hong Kong. Transportation to and from the participating start‑up companies will be arranged by the organiser. Daily dismissal will take place at the Campus X Centre.

Each morning, students will work hands-on with RICE mini — a robot designed to let the students experience what it is like to be a Rice Robotics engineer. While RICE mini is not the same robot deployed in malls and airports, it captures the full engineering and coding process used by real teams behind robots in K11 Musea, SoftBank HQ, and HK International Airport. Through guided tours and interactive demonstrations, students see how robotics, AI, design, and digital technology are applied across industry.
Our students will add sensors, navigate mazes, and iterate like real startup teams. They will assemble their own robot from individual components, understand how motors, wheels, sensors, and battery modules function, and use a drag‑and‑drop coding platform to bring their robot to life. They progressively explore navigation, sequencing, loops, optimisation, and sonar‑based obstacle detection.

Start-up Companies List

In the afternoons, students head out to meet Hong Kong’s innovation leaders:

  • GOGOX: Hong Kong’s first logistics unicorn startup, trusted by brands such as IKEA and Watsons. It is the largest delivery platform app in the city, with operations in multiple Asian markets and over 8 million registered users.
  • Sandbox VR: Founded in Hong Kong, Sandbox VR is now a global leader in immersive VR gaming, with locations in over 20 cities, including LA, London, and Tokyo. Backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz, they have redefined the future of entertainment.
  • TINY: TINY is an innovative technology company based in Hong Kong, focusing on smart home and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions.
  • Pantheon Lab: Pantheon Lab is a Hong Kong-based startup specialising in Generative AI and digital human technology. Founded in 2019, they have developed hyper-realistic AI-powered digital humans for various industries, including collaborations with brands like KFC Taiwan and MTR Corporation.
The week concludes with a grand showcase at Campus X, where students present their robot builds, explain their coding decisions, and share insights gained from the startup visits. Parents are invited to celebrate their achievements and witness their growth in confidence, communication, and technological understanding.

What Student Will Take Home

  • A robot they built and programmed from scratch (RICE mini project outcomes)
  • A certificate of completion and an inspiring experience with cutting‑edge tech and startups.
