What is Model United Nations?
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations General Assembly and other multilateral institutions, organized as an extracurricular academic practice activity for young students.
MUN originated at Harvard University in 1946 and has a history of 77 years. Nearly 400 international MUN conferences are held annually across more than 60 countries on five continents. Each year, participating students and faculty come from over 100 countries, totaling more than four million people.
In MUN, young students take on the role of diplomatic representatives of different countries or other political entities, participating in conferences centered on pressing international issues. Through firsthand experience, students become familiar with the operating procedures of multilateral deliberative bodies such as the UN, build foundational knowledge of international relations and diplomacy, understand how global events may shape their future, and discover the role they can play in the world ahead.
Programme Introduction
The Harvard MUN Overseas Academic Exchange Programme was launched in 2012. In partnership with the Harvard International Relations Council, the programme centers on overseas MUN participation, integrated with distinctive activities including US university visits and social exploration, forming a comprehensive academic exchange programme.
Students will participate in the international MUN conference as young diplomats, visit American universities as academic visitors, and explore renowned American cities as social observers. Through the programme, students gain an in-depth understanding of American society, culture, and education. Over the past decade, the Harvard MUN Overseas Academic Exchange Programme has helped thousands of Chinese students take the stage of overseas MUN, supporting them in developing 21st- century core competencies and laying a solid foundation for their future international academic development.
Programme Design
Module 1: Harvard Model United Nations Conference
- Participate in top-tier international Model UN Conferences

Four-Day All-English Conference Experience - with a total conference duration of nearly 30 hours, providing an immersive English communication environment.
A "Mini-YN" Gathering Global Youth - Over 3,500 high school students from more than 50 countries participate.
Interact with Harvard Students - The conference is organized and chaired by over 200 Harvard University students.
Conference Certificates Issued by a Top University - Students who successfully complete the four-day conference receive a Certificate of Participation issued by Harvard MUN. - Comprehensive MUN Academic Training - Before and during the overseas MUN conference, programme participants receive comprehensive academic guidance and training from a professional MUN academic team, helping them surpass themselves and reach their maximum potential.
Module 2: University Visits ( Specific activities are subject to the actual itinerary arrangement)
- Student-Led Campus Tours - Campus tours are led by current students who have received professional training and have extensive guiding experience. Tours cover landmark buildings, classrooms, libraries, student dining halls, and dormitories, with commentary on campus culture and student life along the way. Most institutions provide English-language tours.
- Chinese Alumni Panel Discussions - Current Chinese students explain the application process and preparation for US universities, share application strategies and experiences specific to their institution, and discuss university study and life.
- Admissions Officer Information Sessions - Admissions officers introduce the university's history and culture, undergraduate programme and majors, and international student admission policies, helping students establish a correct understanding of the application process.
- Student Club Special Lectures - Interact with leaders of student organizations at visited universities, learn about American university club culture, and attend themed lectures — such as the Harvard MUN Club, Georgetown International Relations Association, and MIT Robotics Club.

University Dining Hall Experience - After the campus visit, students dine at the university's student dining hall, experiencing the diverse cuisine of American university cafeterias and gaining an in-depth feel for campus life.
Module 3: American Social Exploration
- Deepen Understanding of American History and Culture (9/11 Memorial Hall/Statue of Liberty, New York/United Nations Headquarters)
- Experience Diverse Culture and Urban Character (One World Trade Center/Times Square/Wall Street)
- Experience Artistic Charm and Athletic Excitement (The Metropolitan Museum of Art/Broadway Shows/NBA Games)

Fee Includes: Transportation and accommodation within the US during the program (twin rooms, equivalent to no less than China’s 3-star hotel standard) / meals during sightseeing in the US / pre-departure academic training / pre-conference guidance sessions and position paper revision support / on-site academic mentoring during the conference / conference registration fee / insurance premium / fees for cultural exchange and site visits / participation certificate.
Fee Excludes: US visa application fee / international round-trip airfare between the participant’s home country and the US / transportation expenses from participants’ hometowns to the designated departure city in their home country / meals during the Model UN conference / personal expenses incurred throughout the programme / US visa administrative processing fee.

Application Process
The 2027 Harvard MUN Overseas Academic Exchange Programme will officially open for applications on September 1, 2026, on a rolling admission basis until all spots are filled. We recommend that applicants complete their application by November 30 to ensure sufficient preparation time.

Step 1: Submit Application
Step 2: Language Assessment
Within one week of submitting the application form, organizing committee staff will contact the applicant. Applicants complete a language assessment as required, allowing us to better understand each applicant. Students who have won awards at HMUN China may be exempted from the language assessment. Students who can submit standardized language test scores may, after comprehensive review by the organizing committee, have the opportunity to be exempted from the language assessment.
Step 3: Admission Notification
Within three days of completing the language assessment, the organizing committee will issue admission notifications to qualified applicants. Applicants who receive an admission letter must sign the activity agreement and pay the relevant fees within one week. Failure to sign the agreement and pay fees by the deadline will be considered forfeiture of the spot.
Step 4: Academic Training
The organizing committee will assign each student a committee and represented country in the MUN conference based on their oral assessment results and application order. Academic guidance before the conference is provided through in-person courses, online training, and remote Q&A sessions.
Step 5: Visa Processing
The organizing committee will assist formally admitted students who do not yet hold a valid US visa (B1/B2) with their US visa application. The specific process and timeline for visa processing will be communicated via email from the organizing committee.

Refund Policy
- A full refund with 4% administrative and system processing fee of the programme fee will be issued for withdrawals made prior to October 9,2026.
- For withdrawals between October 9, 2026, and October 19, 2026, 25% of the total programme fee will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be refunded.
- For withdrawals between October 20,2026, and November 4,2026, 50% of the total programme fee will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be refunded.
- For withdrawals between November 5,2026, and November 20,2026, 85% of the total programme fee will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be refunded.
- No refund will be issued for withdrawals made after November 21, 2026.
- If the programme or services are cancelled by AISL Mall, the 4% administrative and system processing fee will be waived, and a full refund of the amount paid will be provided.
- As an alternative to refund (where applicable), you may request to transfer your enrolment to another service or programme, subject to availability and our approval. Transfers may include programmes of a higher value, with any price difference payable by you.
