The Benefits of Teaching Coding to Kids: Why It’s Never Too Early to Start

Coding, as we know, is the building block of digital technology and is largely considered as the new language of the 21st century. At the World Economic Forum in 2020, it was estimated that more than a billion people will need to retrain by 2030, as almost a third of jobs worldwide will undergo fundamental change due to the rise of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn

How young do children start programming?

More recently, children learn how to code at a young age, sometimes as early as four years old. While such an introduction might seem a bit odd at first, elementary-school coders are a common sight today.

Why is coding beneficial?

Coding is, without a doubt, one of the most straightforward approaches for children to boost their problem-solving skills. It involves breaking down complex problems into smaller, more manageable sections. Kids who learn to code are provided with opportunities to develop an analytical mindset and can be better equipped to tackle challenges in other areas of life.

Coding teaches creativity

Experts suggest that students should learn to code from a very young age and by doing so, they will learn to maintain a creative thinking and experimental mindset. When children learn how to code, they not only explore digital media and technology but also learn how to produce and develop with it. They don’t just play a game, they imagine their own game, app, website and learn through experimentation by strengthening their mind and allowing them to embrace creativity.

Through the study of programming, children can change the way they interact with technologies and are exposed to infinite possibilities of productivity. Increasingly, coding and its related skills are key for new job roles and diverse career paths. The future is going to rely on the ability to program and if we want our children to have the best possible chance of landing a strong career, then knowledge of coding will help to give them a good head-start.
