Applying to University in 2024

It is crucial to consider the academic programme in prospect, faculty, campus culture, location, cost and opportunities for internships, subsequent work opportunities and extracurricular activities.

Applying to the UK

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) is the central organisation responsible for processing applications for full-time undergraduate study in UK universities.

To apply to the UK, students can either register and complete their application using the UCAS online system or do it through their school or college and they will send it to UCAS on the student’s behalf. However, with the latter it’s important to confirm the deadline, as it may be earlier than the one set by UCAS.

Students applying for degrees in the UK other than in medicine, veterinary medicine/science and dentistry will need to work on their applications throughout November and December of the year preceding commencement at university. There is no rule for when students should get started on their application as this will differ student to student It is advisable to give time to visit universities of interest, research different courses and draft personal statements. Choice of university is a big decision, and it’s an important for every student to work through the selection and application process carefully.

Admissions deadlines

For any degree at the universities of Oxford and Cambridge, or for degrees in medicine, veterinary medicine/science and dentistry, students need to apply by 16 October 2024 for summer 2025 entry.

Oxbridge Mind, Cana Elite, and Crimson Education, provide targeted support for students aiming to secure admission to these prestigious UK universities. The focus is on developing critical thinking, problem-solving skills and effective communication. Admissions test support is also provided and allows students to navigate the challenging admissions process with confidence, vastly improving their chances of securing a place in a top-tier institution.

For the majority of other courses for 2025 entry, the university application deadline is 31 January 2025. That said, many universities and colleges will continue to accept later applications from international students, due to the higher fees they pay. However, it’s important not to leave things too late. Places will be allocated on a ‘first come’ basis. Additionally, if students do get a place at their chosen university, they need time to arrange for their accommodation and visa.

If students are applying through school or college, they need to be mindful that their teachers may have their own internal school deadlines. This is so they have enough time to read and check their application and write their reference, before submitting. As long as it’s before the deadline when they submit their application, this won’t make any difference to their chances of successful admission.

Applying to other destination

Students wishing to apply for Canada, the US and Australia have other deadlines to follow. In 2024, it is essential for students to start applying earlier as the deadline varies depending on their programme or school, university or interest. Students need to also remember that there may be additional tests or examinations required for the specific university programme they are interested in. It is best not to wait until the last minute and plan for enough buffer time to retake these tests if needed.

Preparation for interviews is also important and Cana’s Elite Academic Coaching Program empowers students for success focusing on skills, habits, and attitude for academic and personal growth.

Early Decision

Early decision is one of the most popular application options for students who have already decided which university they would like to attend. The early decision deadline is usually on a date before the regular decision deadline.

Early decision is a binding agreement between the student and the university, which requires the student to attend the university if they are accepted. Students who apply through the early decision option typically have a higher acceptance rate than those who apply through the regular decision process.

By conducting thorough research, learning about the standardised testing changes, crafting compelling personal statements and highlighting extracurricular activities, students can maximise their chances of gaining admissions to their dream destination.
